Nearly fried my Switch motherboard because I forgot ONE tiny thing
I was doing a shell swap on my Switch OLED last Saturday in my garage. Everything was going smooth until I put it back together and it wouldn't power on. No lights, no nothing. My heart DROPPED. Turns out I forgot to disconnect the battery ribbon cable before unplugging the fan header. It shorted something on the board. I let it sit for 2 hours unplugged, checked all my ribbon cables, and somehow it booted back up. Anyone else ever get that sick feeling when a console goes dark on you?

Start by saying I read somewhere that the battery cable is basically the number one killer of Switch boards during repairs. @reesepatel is spot on, you gotta pull that battery first every single time. I fried a Game Boy Advance SP shoulder button once because I skipped the battery step and it made a tiny pop noise. Letting it sit for two hours is a solid trick, I did the same thing and it saved my GBA too. You got real lucky with that OLED board, those are expensive to replace.
