Built a desk from an old door my neighbor was throwing out

My neighbor told me I was crazy for using a hollow-core door as a desk top, said it would sag in a month. It's been 6 months and I just screwed a 2x4 across the underside for support. Anyone else get pushback on cheap desk builds that worked out fine?

Did your neighbor offer to build you a "proper" desk out of solid oak for $500 while they were at it? I swear, some people act like furniture is supposed to survive a nuclear blast... My old desk is just a plank across two filing cabinets, been that way for years. Your 2x4 trick is practically over-engineering it.

That $500 neighbor desk would probably still be standing after a nuke though lol. My filing cabinet setup wobbles if I sneeze too hard, so maybe over-engineering isn't the worst thing.
