My brother-in-law swore by harbor freight clamps, then my cabinet doors sagged
He told me those $9 quick release clamps were fine for edge gluing a 6 foot butcher block top in Phoenix. Six months later the middle of every panel joint opened up like a tiny gully. The cheap bars flexed under pressure, so the glue line never got tight enough while it dried. I had to plane and re-glue the whole thing, costing me 2 weekends and a fresh bottle of Titebond. Anyone else trust a relative's tool shortcut and watch it fail on a big glue up?
Those $9 quick release clamps are basically wet noodles with a trigger, so of course that glue line gave up on you. My own "trusted source" advice backfired when I clamped a shelf with borrowed straps and watched the whole thing slide apart, so at least you only lost two weekends and not a finger.
