My neighbor said my paint job looked like a toddler did it, and honestly, he was right.
I was painting my garage door last weekend, and I was just slapping it on with a cheap roller, not really caring about the drips. My neighbor Frank, who's a retired house painter, walked by and just said, 'Keith, that looks like my three-year-old granddaughter got loose with a brush.' I laughed, but then I actually looked at it. The paint was super uneven, and there were runs everywhere. He came over and showed me how to properly 'cut in' the edges with an angled brush first, then use the roller in small, overlapping 'W' shapes. I spent the next hour fixing my mess, and the difference was huge. It actually looks smooth now. Has anyone else gotten a piece of advice that totally saved a project you thought was fine?

Ngl, my first attempt at grout looked like a toddler's art project. How do you mess up something that's supposed to be straight lines?

Oh man, I feel that. My first grout lines looked like a drunk worm had a go at it. I was so sure I could just eyeball it, which was a huge mistake. Turns out that blue tape isn't just for decoration, who knew.
