That time I tried to tile my own kitchen floor and ended up with a sloped counter

I was at Home Depot thinking I could save $800 doing the backsplash, then spent 4 hours trying to figure out why the tiles kept sliding off the wall before a random employee told me I forgot to clean off the grease. Has anyone else had a simple project turn into a total circus like this?

Three hours into the same mess and I realized the level I was using was off by a quarter inch the whole time. Did you catch that the tiles were actually okay but the mortar dried wrong, or did you just scrap the whole thing and call it a day?

A quarter inch off? I'd call it "modern farmhouse style" and move on.

the whole time" is rough, I feel that. But nah, I think the level being off would throw everything off way more than bad mortar, I'd probably scrap it and start fresh rather than hope the next row fixes itself.
