TIL my neighbor spends more time planning his tool pegboard than actually building things

I was over at his garage last weekend and he spent a full 45 minutes rearranging hooks for a hammer drill he uses maybe once a year. Has anyone else realized they're guilty of organizing instead of doing?

Nah but the hammer drill thing is kinda funny. That said you're missing the point a little. Organizing IS part of building things. You can't work efficiently if you're digging through a pile of crap every time you need a socket. Yeah 45 minutes is excessive but if he's got a system that actually works for him then who cares. The real problem is people who organize endlessly and never touch their tools. If he's actually using that hammer drill once a year and it takes him 2 minutes to grab it instead of 20 then the pegboard time paid for itself.

But doesn't that assume the time you save is actually worth more than the time you spent organizing? I mean, if you're spending 45 minutes setting up a pegboard for one tool you use once a year, that's a pretty bad trade-off in my book. Maybe it's just me, but I'd rather just spend the extra minute digging through the pile and put that 45 minutes into an actual project instead.
