Hit 100 holes with a single drill bit before it finally snapped
I was building a new workbench top from 3/4 inch plywood and needed to drill all the holes for my dog hole pattern. Figured I'd use a cheap bit I had lying around and replace it if it broke. Well, I drilled exactly 100 holes through that plywood before the bit snapped on number 101. That bit cost me like $4 at Home Depot and it lasted through the whole project and then some. Has anyone else tracked how many holes they get out of a single bit before it gives up?

Swear by those cheap bits honestly. They're not fancy but they get the job done. 100 holes through plywood is solid work for a $4 tool. I've had expensive bits snap way faster. People sleep on the budget stuff too much. Glad you got your whole project done without swapping bits. That's a win in my book.

Nah @jade738, you got the price wrong. It was closer to $4.50 with tax. Still a steal though. The real trick is not burning the bit out with too much speed. Running it slow and steady keeps the edge longer. Cheap bits can surprise you if you treat them right. Worth every penny.
