I checked my grandpa's old workbench plans from 1968 and was shocked at one detail

I was cleaning out my garage last weekend and found my grandpa's hand-drawn workbench plans dated 1968. The big surprise was he built the whole thing with just a hand saw, a brace and bit, and a hammer. No power tools at all. I counted 47 mortise and tenon joints in that design. Has anyone else ever tried building a workbench with only hand tools?

Devils advocate here but power tools exist for a reason. 47 mortises by hand sounds like a good way to never actually finish the bench. A router and a chisel could knock that out in a day tops. Grandpas methods are charming but not practical if you actually want to build something.

I mean, a router jig makes those mortises way faster just saying.
