Line weights finally clicked after a weld shop foreman talked to me
I've been drafting for 8 years and always just picked line weights that looked okay on screen. Last month at a fab shop in Tulsa, the foreman pointed at my print and said every structural line reads the same as a dimension line, so the guys have to guess what matters. He showed me how he flags heavy lines first, then medium, then thin, and suddenly the whole sheet has a visual order. Now I set up layer pens before I draw anything. Has anyone else had a field guy change how they organize their layers?

Oh man, that story hits home. I had almost the exact same thing happen a couple years back with a steel fabricator who basically drew on my PDF with a red marker to show me what was actually important. It's wild how you can stare at your own drawing for years and just not see the hierarchy because you're too close to it. Once they pointed it out to me, I felt kinda dumb honestly, but also relieved because it finally made sense. Now I make my dimension lines super fine and keep my structural stuff heavy before I even place the first view. That trip to the shop was honestly better than any tutorial I ever watched.
