Rant: That blocked cutterhead took me 6 hours to clear

Got into a patch of heavy clay and roots near the old mill pond on Miller Creek, and the cutterhead just locked up solid. Took me and another guy 6 hours with a torch and pry bars to clear it all out. Anybody run into surprise clay pockets like that around here?

Six hours with a torch and pry bars sounds like a fun Saturday night, right? I swear clay pockets are out there just waiting to ruin your whole week. Had one on a job near the old train tracks that took me half a day to dig out, and I nearly threw my hard hat in the creek. Bet that mill pond clay has been sitting there laughing at everyone for decades. Hope you charged them double for the overtime.

Yeah, that mill pond clay probably has been settling there for a hundred years or more. You gotta figure that stuff gets packed down tight from all that water weight pressing on it season after season. A torch and pry bars sounds about right for that kind of mess, nothing else seems to break it loose.
