My ladder decided to take a vacation mid-hang

So I'm on this job in a two story foyer, right? Got my 12 foot Gorilla ladder set up on the second step of the little rolling platform. I'm up top, arms full of a 4x8 sheet, and I feel the whole thing start to tip. I look down and the locking hinge on the ladder just gave out, like it decided it was done for the day. I had to jump off onto the platform with the sheet still in my hands, which was not fun. The ladder folded up and slid down the stairs like a weird metal snake. No real damage, but my heart was beating out of my chest. The homeowner's kid saw the whole thing from the kitchen and just said 'cool trick, mister.' Has anyone else had a ladder just fail like that out of the blue? What's a good brand that won't quit on you?

Used to think any ladder was fine if you were careful. Watching a friend's ladder buckle under him changed my mind completely. Now I only buy from brands with a lifetime warranty on the hinge.

Scary, right? Which brands do you trust now?
