Just a heads up about the self checkout at the Safeway on 4th street

I was there this morning and three of the machines kept freezing up on people trying to pay with cards, so check your receipt before you leave the store.

Honestly that doesn't surprise me one bit about Safeway. Their self checkouts have been junk for years. I had one start blasting the "please place your item in the bagging area" message at full volume while I was just standing there holding my wallet. It was so loud the cashier came over and just stared at me like I was the one breaking it. Ngl I felt like I was being held hostage by a beeping machine. And then when I finally got my card to go through the receipt printed out all smudged and half the items weren't even listed right.

Three of them? Sounds like you hit a bad shift honestly. I use that same Safeway self checkout every Tuesday morning and it's been fine for months. Maybe they had a software update glitch overnight or something. I get that it sucks when a machine freezes but I've never had a receipt issue there. The staff usually catches payment problems pretty quick too. I dunno, maybe I've just been lucky but I've had way more trouble with the human cashiers messing up orders.

Oh man, @veramiller you've been lucky then! I saw that same Safeway mess today with a woman's card stuck in the machine and the screen just frozen on "processing." The receipt it did spit out for someone else had random extra charges for avocados they never grabbed. Three machines down is not a "bad shift" thing, that's a whole system losing its mind.
