PSA: The express checkout lane is not for your 47 items, Susan

There was a woman at the Shaw's in Manchester yesterday with her cart piled to the brim, and she waltzes into the 10 items or less lane like it's a suggestion. I counted 47 things (bag of oranges, 3 boxes of pasta, a whole rotisserie chicken). Do people just not see the sign or do they think it's a vibe check? Has anyone else had to stand there tapping their foot while someone's cart becomes a Tetris nightmare?

...and the thing is, that woman probably thinks she's being smart, like she found a loophole or something. I was at the Big Y in Vernon a few weeks back and a guy with a full cart practically sprinted into the express lane, then gave me the dirtiest look when I said something. I counted his items too out of spite, it was 38. What gets me is the rotisserie chicken, I mean, that's practically a main course, not a quick grab item. They act like we're all just standing there for the ambiance, not because we have places to be.

Vernon Big Y is a nightmare for that stuff, I go to the one in Manchester but same deal. Honestly I used to be the person who would grab a rotisserie chicken and stand in the express lane not even thinking about it. But seeing it laid out like that, the chicken is a whole meal, not a quick item, and I get now why people get annoyed.
