Can we talk about unpermitted electrical work and what to do?

I mean, I was doing a panel upgrade and found a bunch of junctions hidden in the wall. The old homeowner did it themselves to save cash, idk. I had to decide if I should just fix it or report it since it's not up to code. Maybe it's just me, but I talked to the new owner and we got it permitted, even though it added to the job time.

Honestly depends on the situation though. Like how bad was the thing that got broken in the first place.

My buddy's car got a huge scratch in a parking lot last year. He just drove off and fixed it himself. The other driver was a single mom with a beat-up minivan. If he had reported it, her insurance would have gone way up and she might have lost her license. That's not justice, that's just ruining someone's life over a mistake. Keeping quiet and handling it yourself can be the kinder thing to do.
