Thought the old 'toothpaste on a scratched disc' trick was total nonsense.
Had a client bring in a scratched PS2 game last week, said they'd tried it. I was ready to tell them it was a waste of time, but I cleaned it off with isopropyl and the console read it first try. Anyone have a better method for deep gouges that actually works?

That "toothpaste on a scratched disc" thing... my cousin swore by it for years. He'd just rub it in with his thumb and call it a day. Honestly, I think he just got lucky with light scratches.

My buddy Dave tried the toothpaste trick on our copy of Halo 2 back in 2005. It left this weird cloudy film all over the disc. The game loaded, but it sounded like the Xbox was grinding rocks every time. We got maybe two more plays before it died for good. He definitely made those scratches worse.
