Got into it with the building manager over a 1998 Dover governor adjustment in a Chicago high-rise.

He insisted the old spec was fine for a full speed test, but I found a worn pawl spring and refused to sign off until we replaced it, so has anyone else had to push back hard on a safety call like that?

Your refusal protects EVERYONE in that building, not just the inspection sheet.

Sometimes you gotta trust the old specs, man. That spring probably had another decade in it.

That 1998 spec is a good starting point, but it doesn't account for real world wear on a part like that spring. A worn pawl spring is a single point of failure for the safety system, so finding it changes the whole picture. Your call to replace it was the right move.
