Heard a young guy call old controllers junk yesterday
Got me thinking about how much we take those old Otis 2100s for granted. Yeah they're slow but they run forever when you know the quirks. Anyone else find the new stuff finicky compared to the old iron?

You guys are making me feel old but in a good way. I still remember when they first started swapping out our old 2100 and the new techs were bragging about how much faster the new one was. Then a power blip hit and we were stuck waiting three days for a replacement board from Germany while the old controller sat in the corner looking smug. Maybe I'm the junk one now, my back hurts just watching those young guys climb ladders.
But seriously those 2100s are like the old flip phones of the elevator world. They don't do much but they always work and you can drop them down a flight of stairs without a scratch. The new stuff is faster but one weird voltage spike and you're dead in the water. I'll take slow and steady any day of the week.

Oh yeah calling them junk is crazy, my old 2100 has outlasted three new controllers.

Runs forever when you know the quirks" is dead on. @jana_ellis95 you said it, those 2100s are like the old pickup trucks that just keep going no matter what. The new stuff is all digital and finicky, one bad power surge and the whole board goes. People forget you can fix an old Otis with a screwdriver and some common sense. The newer controllers are faster but they turn into bricks the second something goes wrong.
