Appreciation post: that time a facial steamer actually made things worse
I was always told steam was a must for opening pores before extractions, so I used my HydraFacial machine's steamer for a full 10 minutes on a client with rosacea-prone skin... and it just caused a major flare-up of redness and tiny broken capillaries. I learned that intense, prolonged heat can be a huge trigger for sensitive conditions like that. Has anyone else had to adjust their steaming routine for clients with vascular sensitivity?

Burned my own face trying to test the steamer on myself once before a client session, ended up looking like a tomato for two days. Guess I learned the hard way that some skin just wants to stay dry and grumpy.

Used to think a good, long steam was the only way to prep skin. Then I had a client with mild redness where even five minutes with a warm towel seemed to make things look angrier. Now I just use a lukewarm compress for maybe a minute if their skin seems reactive at all, and skip it entirely if they have a lot of visible capillaries.
