My grandma's cookie recipe is driving me nuts because it's so unclear
I tried making my grandma's famous oatmeal cookies last weekend. Her recipe just says 'add some butter' and 'bake until done.' No amounts, no times. I messed up three batches before I got it right. How do you deal with recipes that don't have precise measurements?

Saw a cooking show say to treat vague recipes like guidelines and adjust by feel.

My last "by feel" cake became a doorstop.

My first sourdough bake proved recipes are just suggestions. I kept adding water until the dough felt right, not when the timer went off. Why follow steps exactly when your own hands know better?

Honestly, my grandma's recipes are the same, it's like a secret club I failed the test for. My third attempt at her pie crust just gave me a pan of greasy crumbs, lmao. I've started treating "some" as a full cup and "until done" as whenever my smoke alarm goes off.
