Tried using a propane torch on a cold shoe and the metal flew right off my anvil
It was 18 degrees in Colorado last Tuesday and the shoe just pinged across the shop like a bullet, so now I preheat my anvil with a space heater for 20 minutes before I start, has anyone else had a shoe launch on them in winter?

Honestly sounds like your anvil was trying to get in on the action and yeet itself across the shop too. Ngl that space heater trick probably saves you from a lot of unexpected cardio.

Nah @michael_patel I think the anvil was just settling in for a nap, the space heater trick is more about avoiding frozen fingers than cardio. You're giving that anvil way too much credit for athletic ambition.

Calling BS on this one @michael_patel - I've been shoeing in single digits for years with the same cold anvil and never had a shoe take off. The problem ain't the temp, it's the way you're seating the shoe on the anvil face.
