Just heard a neighbor say they only use glass jars for their kombucha
I was picking up a package at the front desk in my building yesterday, and the guy next to me was telling the doorman about his kombucha. He said he switched to only glass jars because a plastic one he used for a second ferment gave the whole batch a weird taste. I've been using an old plastic pitcher for my ginger bug, and now I'm worried it might be doing the same thing. Has anyone else noticed a flavor change with different containers?

My first batch of tepache in a plastic jug tasted like shower curtain. Plastic definitely picks up smells and can leach into acidic ferments. I switched to only using glass for anything with fruit or a second ferment. That old pitcher is probably fine for just starting a bug, but I wouldn't trust it for the final product.

Ever try a glass container for the ginger bug too, or is that less picky?
