Found a perfect vintage lamp at the swap meet, but the cord was a total fire hazard.

Smart move. A melted plug is a pretty convincing argument.

Honestly used to just wrap old cords in electrical tape and call it a day. Then a buddy showed me his toaster cord that had melted through inside the plug, just from normal use. Now any sketchy wire gets replaced before I even plug it in. It's not worth the risk for a cool find.
