My cousin said we should stop using floral foam in our arrangements
We were working on a wedding arch in Chicago last month and she pointed out the foam bits in the trash. She told me it's basically plastic that never breaks down and there are other ways to hold stems. It made me think hard about our shop's waste. Do you think the convenience is worth the environmental hit?

Yeah, my friend who does arrangements for a local cafe ran into this. She switched to using chicken wire and reusable glass tubes for the big stuff after she saw a video of that foam just sitting in a landfill, intact, years later. It was a pain to learn at first and takes a bit longer, but she says she sleeps better now. The convenience is real, but so is that pile of plastic bits that outlive us all.

That "pile of plastic bits that outlive us all" line from you, @barbara84, really sticks with you. It reminds me of seeing those little plastic plant tags in my grandma's garden, faded but completely whole, decades after she bought the flowers. Makes you look at every single-use thing differently, doesn't it? Like, we're just renting this stuff for a minute before it goes back to the ground forever. Your friend switching her whole process is pretty hardcore, but I get why she did it.
