Forgot to close the crisper drawer and everything froze

I was rushing out the door yesterday morning and left the vegetable drawer open a crack. Came back from work in Portland to find my bell peppers and a block of cheddar rock solid. I can still use the cheese, but the peppers are ruined. What's the best way to salvage a fridge full of half-frozen food?

How frozen is "half-frozen," exactly?

Honestly, half-frozen usually means the top layer is solid ice but you can still slosh liquid underneath. Tbh you don't want to pour that into a cooler, it'll just melt everything else faster. If it's a drink, you gotta shake it real hard to break up the ice chunks before you open it. Otherwise it's gonna explode all over you when the pressure releases.

Shaking it is the move, but you gotta be careful with that pressure release. I've had cans spray everywhere when the ice plug breaks. What works better is running it under warm water for like 30 seconds just on the top part. That melts the seal enough so you can open it slow and controlled. Half-frozen is a total pain, you're right about it ruining a cooler's temp.
