Just realized my weekly grocery bill dropped under $40

I started buying dried beans in bulk from the co-op and making a big pot of soup every Sunday. Last week I spent $38.75 at the store, which is the lowest it's been in years. Has anyone else found a single change that cut their food costs this much?

Wow, I read a blog about exactly what @kelly.daniel said, and it really works!

Bulk buying the basics is a total game changer. It's the same reason I stopped getting single serve anything. The packaging and convenience fee just kills you. My pantry is full of big bags of rice and oats now. Feels like you finally beat the system a little.

That "beat the system" feeling @kelly.daniel mentioned is real. I started doing the same with coffee beans, buying by the pound instead of small bags. The savings add up fast, and you just feel smarter about it.
