Saw a really nice finish on a bench in the Denver airport
I was stuck on a layover and went to the new lounge near gate B60. They have this long oak bench with a finish that looks like satin but feels like glass. I'm pretty sure they used a hard wax oil, maybe Rubio Monocoat, because there's zero film and the grain is super open. Has anyone else seen a public space finish that made you stop and figure it out?

My buddy Mark got obsessed with the tables at a brewery in Asheville last year. He kept running his hand over the surface and finally asked the bartender what they used. Turns out it was just many coats of a basic tung oil, sanded super fine between each one. It looked so deep you could almost fall into the wood. What's the most steps you've heard of for a finish like that?

You think airport furniture is bad? Try being stuck in a hospital waiting room for eight hours. Those chairs are designed to be uncomfortable on purpose, I swear. Wyatt's buddy Mark had the right idea looking at something actually nice. Most public spaces just use plastic laminate that peels up at the edges after six months. It's all about cost, not about making something you'd want to touch.
