A retired guy at the flea market told me to try a different kind of sand

Honestly, I was just looking for old tools last weekend in Springfield. This older guy saw me and asked if I worked with glass, said he used to blow it. He told me to stop using the fine-grit silica sand I get from the big craft store. He said for frit, try a 60-grit blasting sand from a hardware place, it melts more evenly. I tried it yesterday and the color spread way better in my test piece. Has anyone else switched up their base sand with good results?

That's rough, @kevinc84. It seems like that particular advice gets passed around a lot. Makes you wonder how many people have tried it. Not a great feeling to find out your tip isn't unique.

Ever try beach sand? It worked for me too, just like @johnrobinson said.
