That $700 SEO audit I bought from a fancy agency burned me bad

Paid a big name agency $700 for a technical SEO audit and all they gave me was a 3 page PDF saying my meta descriptions were too short. Has anyone else gotten ripped off by those high priced audit packages?

My $700 audit came back with a suggestion that made me laugh and cry at the same time... they told me to "add more images on product pages" but didn't point out a single broken link or slow loading page that was actually killing my traffic. I could have run their whole process myself with a free tool and a cup of coffee for way less embarrassment.

Did they seriously charge you $700 for just three pages? That's wild. A real audit should at least cover stuff like site speed, crawl errors, broken links, and maybe a peek at your competitors. Sounds like they took a quick look at your site and called it a day. I'd be asking for a refund or at least a detailed breakdown of what they actually checked.

But what if that $700 wasn’t just for the three pages themselves, but for the time spent actually understanding the business and strategy behind them? @karen410 I’ve seen cheap audits where they just run a tool and spit out a PDF, so maybe this person paid for more hands-on advice that didn’t come across in the report. If they really did get personalized recommendations on how to fix specific issues, three pages could be worth it if the advice saves them thousands in the long run.
