My shop switched from a standard glory hole to a ribbon burner setup last fall

Everyone told me the old glory hole was fine. But after 3 months with the ribbon burner, my color work is way cleaner. Less scum, more even heat. I can hold a piece in there for 45 seconds without getting that weird haze on the surface. It cost about $1200 to retrofit, but it's the best upgrade I've made. Has anyone else made a big change to their heating setup that paid off?

Noticed a big problem with how we toss laminated glass

The plastic middle layer doesn't recycle well and ends up in landfills. Let's start stripping it to cut down on waste.

Tbh, I swore by pocket screws for face frames until I tried dominoes

Honestly, I thought pocket screws were fast and strong enough for all my face frame work. Tbh, a buddy lent me his domino joiner for a big built-in job, and I was skeptical. After using it, the alignment was perfect every time, with no clamping fuss. Ngl, I'm switching to dominoes for face frames now, it just makes everything smoother.

Man, "FIRE hazard" hits close to home for me. I once tried to rig up a power supply with duct tape and almost lit my desk on fire. So yeah, turning down unsafe work is totally the right call, even if it sucks.

Unpopular opinion: Waiting on hull inspections kills more dives than bad weather.

Man, hearing about those inspection delays hits close to home. I once managed to 'inspect' my own gear for so long that the dive master thought I was part of the safety audit (I was just trying to remember how my buoyancy compensator worked). We ended up waiting an extra hour because of my clumsy fumbling, which somehow felt longer than any hull check. So yeah, I can believe inspections cause holdups, but sometimes it's just us divers getting in our own way.
