My air hose coupler blew apart right in the middle of a big dent pull

Happened yesterday afternoon, right as I was putting some real pressure on a quarter panel. I was using my trusty old 3/8" Milton V-style coupler, the one that's been on my main line for maybe five years. Heard a loud pop and then a hiss, and the whole thing just split at the seam. Air went everywhere, and the puller line went slack. I had to shut everything down, run to the supply house in town before they closed, and grab a new one. Cost me about twenty bucks and forty minutes of my day. It's funny how the smallest, cheapest part can stop a whole job dead. Makes you wonder, how often do you guys check your couplers and fittings for wear?

My first coop, built about five years ago, was basically a wooden box with a door and some chicken wire stapled to a frame. I thought it was fine, but I spent a ton of time cleaning it, and the girls seemed stressed in bad weather. This spring, I built a new one with a raised, slanted floor and proper hardware cloth over every opening, even the small ones. The difference is night and day. Cleaning takes half the time because everything just slides out, and I haven't seen a single sign of a predator trying to get in, not even a raccoon paw print. It cost me about $200 more in materials, but the peace of mind and the extra hour I get back each week is worth it. Has anyone else made a switch like that and been shocked by how much easier it made everything?
