Vent: A stripped screw on a Cessna 172's cowling cost me an extra hour yesterday.
Had to drill it out and chase the threads, all because the last guy cranked it with an impact. Anyone got a better trick for those besides just being careful?

Ugh, been there. Did you try a left-handed drill bit first?

Graceprice, sometimes you just have to drill it out and re-tap the hole.

My go-to move is usually the left-handed bit, but my hand-eye coordination is so bad I'd probably drill into the wing spar. Ended up using a screw extractor set I got on sale, felt like a real mechanic for about five minutes.
