Tried to save $30 trimming my own tree in the North Valley
Bought a pole saw from Harbor Freight, took down one branch, and the whole thing snapped in half on me - guess I'll just stick to calling that guy on Craigslist with the bucket truck, anyone else have a DIY home repair go this sideways?

Wait, why would you blame the TOOL when the real issue is you buying the cheapest option at Harbor Freight? Those pole saws are about as sturdy as a wet noodle, so snapping one on a single branch sounds like user error more than anything else. DIY is all about knowing your limits and spending the cash on gear that won't fold, and you clearly skipped both steps here.

Oh man, your comment just reminded me of the time my buddy tried to save money on a pressure washer, lol. He got this little electric one from some random brand and it literally caught fire on the third use! We were all standing there watching it smoke like a bad BBQ. I mean, sometimes you really do get what you pay for, but it's not always the user's fault when a cheap tool just decides to self-destruct. Harbor Freight definitely has its place, but yeah, pole saws and anything that takes a beating might be worth spending a little more on.
