I was looking up old anime sales numbers and found something wild

I was reading a forum thread from like 2010 about DVD sales, and someone posted that the first season of 'Lucky Star' sold over 50,000 copies per volume on average in Japan. That's a ton for a show that's basically just girls talking about snacks and pop culture. It made me realize how different the market was back then before streaming took over. Anyone else stumble on an old anime fact that just seemed totally unbelievable?
