Warning: my 3M dust extractor hose split right at the coupling yesterday

It happened while I was sanding a quarter panel, and I had to tape it up with electrical tape to finish the job. Anyone know a good place to get a heavy duty replacement hose that won't kink?

My 3M hose did the exact same thing last year, right at the worst time. It's like they design these things to fail the second you start a big sanding job. You'd think for the price, the coupling would be made of something better than wishful thinking.

You saying "wishful thinking" is spot on. I used to defend the price, thinking it meant better parts. Then mine split during a cabinet refinish, dust everywhere. Watching plastic shatter on a "pro" tool changed my mind completely. Now that coupling feels like a cheap trick.

Didn't I read somewhere that 3M doesn't actually make those hoses themselves? It makes sense after what dakotacraig said about the plastic feeling like a cheap trick. I'd look for a generic heavy duty one from a shop supply place instead.
