Warning: My quick wipe-down habit led to adhesion problems.

I now thoroughly degrease every surface before painting.

That "quick wipe-down habit" is something I used to do too. What were you using for those wipe-downs before you switched to full degreasing? I'm guessing you learned the hard way when a project failed, did something go really wrong?

Started with those blue shop towels and a spritz of isopropyl alcohol, thought it was enough. The project that failed was a set of kitchen cabinets, the paint just never properly stuck and peeled near the handles within a month. Learned that alcohol just moves grease around, it doesn't actually lift it off the surface. Now I use a proper degreaser and lots of clean rags, no shortcuts.

What are you using now for degreasing? I learned with dish soap and water, then my clear coat failed on a table.
