Got caught in a surprise storm on the Lost Coast Trail

We were two days into the hike near Shelter Cove when the sky turned black fast. The wind picked up so strong it ripped a tent stake right out of the ground, and we got soaked through in about five minutes. We had to hunker down under a big rock overhang for three hours until it passed. What's the best way you've found to check for sudden weather changes in remote areas like that?

My Garmin InReach Mini 2 has saved my butt more than once with its forecast updates. It's the same with everything now, you can't trust a basic app to handle real conditions.

My weather app is basically a magic eight ball that says "maybe rain" for everything. I've started just looking at the clouds and hoping for the best, which works as well as you'd think.

The Weather Channel app gave me a 90% chance of rain last Tuesday and it was sunny all day. I get needing good info for hiking or something, but for most people it's just about whether to grab a jacket. How often does the weather actually ruin your plans?
