Found a used steel bread lame at a flea market for 5 bucks

Picked it up last Saturday from a vendor in Austin who said he used it for 5 years, and after sharpening the blade it cuts cleaner than my new plastic one ever did anyone else have luck with old bakers tools?

Huh. You might be sharpening the blade not the lame.

A buddy of mine spent three years building out this woodworking shop. Got every tool, every jig, every dust collector you could think of. Never built a single thing.

That phrase "sharpening the blade not the lame" really caught my attention @the_phoenix. It makes me think about how we sometimes focus so much on getting our tools perfect that we forget to actually swing at anything. Like, I've seen folks spend months tweaking their setup or learning the perfect form but never step up to the plate. In my experience, there is a fine line between getting ready and just avoiding the hard part. Your mileage may vary, but I think you really hit on something here about how easy it is to trick yourself into thinking prep is the same as doing the work.
