My worst haircut day was last Saturday. Walked in at 8am, client at 9am had a fresh scar I didn't see until halfway through.

The scar was right behind their ear. I hit it with the clipper guard and they flinched hard. Felt terrible for the rest of the shift. How do you guys spot things like that before you start cutting?

Cameras on the chair arms catch what the eye misses.

One time I had a client who flinched every time I got near their temple, turns out they had a migraine and just didn't bother mentioning it. Now I always ask if there's any sore spots or sensitive areas before I even pick up the clippers. Quick question can save you a whole lot of awkward silence during the haircut.

Wait, is that really a good thing to do though? I feel like asking about sore spots just puts the idea in their head and makes them tense up over nothing. Half the time people probably wouldn't even notice a mild headache until you mention it. @leow90, you might actually be creating the awkwardness you're trying to avoid by bringing up the possibility of pain. Plus, some clients might think you're some kind of weirdo for asking about their medical stuff before a simple haircut. Just seems like more trouble than it's worth to me.
