Finally broke down and used the 'skip the prologue' trick for my book club

My book club has been debating for months why nobody finishes the assigned reads... we picked this dense historical fiction last month and I was dreading it again. Then I heard someone online say just skip the prologue and go straight to chapter one, then come back later if you need background. I tried it with our current book and actually finished it in three days instead of struggling for two weeks. The crazy part is I didn't miss anything important, the prologue was just some boring setup that didn't matter until halfway through. When I brought it up at our last meeting, three other people said they did the same thing and we all had a way better discussion. Has anyone else tried skipping parts to save a book that's dragging? Or is that considered cheating in your group?

I see skipping as missing the author's intended setup though.

Pretty sure I missed the whole library that day @river_hall44.
