Hit 50 book club meetings without missing one and it broke my brain a little

I started my book club in 2019 and somehow made it to 50 straight meetings without a single no-show from me. Last night our pick was a 900-page fantasy doorstop (The Priory of the Orange Tree) and I realized half our members skimmed it, but nobody cared because the wine and arguing about character motives was better. Has anyone else hit a weird milestone that made you rethink why you even do book club?

Is it just me or does hitting perfect attendance on something make you start wondering if the real point is getting together to complain about how none of us have the time for 900 page books anymore? I've noticed that with my own groups, the actual milestone is usually just proving we can still show up and be social without losing our minds.

@miab87 it's just how we cope with life getting busier while still wanting to connect.
