My neighbor's kid asked why I talk to my plants and it kinda got me

Honestly, I was watering my fiddle leaf fig on my porch in Austin and this 8 year old from next door just asked me straight up, 'Why do you tell them good morning?' Tbh, I just said it helps them grow, but later I realized I do it because it makes me happy, not the plant. Does anyone else have a plant care thing that's more for you than the green guys?

You know, I always thought people talking to plants was a bit silly. But then I got a peace lily for my dark apartment, and I started telling it it was doing great just for not dying. Now I get it, it's totally for me. That kid's question would have stumped me too.

Yeah, joseph932 saying he'd tell his peace lily it was doing great just for not dying hit me. I used to think it was total nonsense too, until my aloe plant looked rough and I caught myself giving it a pep talk. It was 100% for me, not the plant.

Honestly, I've given my cactus a stern talking-to about its poor life choices.

Oh man, that's so real. I talk to my snake plant about my work stress, like a weird green therapist. It's not listening, but saying it out loud helps me sort my own head out. @joseph932 gets it, that little bit of care is for us. My thing is wiping each leaf with a soft cloth. It's so quiet and simple, just a few minutes where my brain actually shuts up.
