Changed my approach to laying the first course.

Switching from a string line to a laser level made everything straighter and faster.

Really? I always find lasers get washed out in the sun and the batteries die at the worst time. A good string line might be slower to set up, but I trust it more for a long wall where you can't constantly reposition the laser.

Just wait for the laser to die and the string to snap at the same time.
