TIL that my local discount grocery store has a 'slightly bruised' produce bin

I stopped by Grocery Outlet on Elm Street yesterday and noticed a whole bin of apples marked down to 50 cents a pound. Everyone walks right past it because the apples have small bruises, but I grabbed a bag and made a huge apple crisp for under $3. Has anyone else found hidden gems in the damaged produce section?

Have you noticed how much money people leave on the table just because something doesn't look perfect? Honestly, it's wild how picky we've all gotten about produce when bruised or weird fruit still tastes exactly the same as the pretty stuff. Ngl, that's a huge chunk of our grocery bill that we're just throwing away because of how something looks.

Start paying attention to how people treat anything that isn't picture perfect and you'll see it everywhere, not just with fruit. @chen.fiona is right that we've been trained to overlook perfectly good stuff just because it has a tiny flaw, and that same mindset makes people pass up a lot of other deals and opportunities without even thinking. If we all stopped being so picky about appearances, what else would suddenly become a lot more affordable?
