Showerthought: my $30 travel towel from a shop in Bangkok was the best thing I ever packed

It dries in under an hour, packs smaller than a t-shirt, and saved me from paying for overpriced rentals at three different hostels in Chiang Mai last month, so what other small, cheap gear has actually been a game-changer for you?

My little roll of duct tape, maybe the size of a candy bar. It fixed a broken backpack strap in Lisbon, sealed a leaky water bottle in a pinch, and even held a loose hostel bed frame together for a week. It's the thing I never plan to use, but I'm always glad I have it.

That hostel bed frame story is gold. Did you ever tell the owner or just leave it as a surprise for the next guest?

Actually the duct tape was mine, not the hostel's. I left it on there when I checked out because it was basically empty anyway. Figured the next person might need a quick fix too. The owner probably found it during cleaning and just shook their head.
