My buddy said skip the brand name budget app and use a spreadsheet instead

I was about to drop $15 a month on one of those fancy budgeting apps back in March. My buddy Dave told me to just use Google Sheets and track manually. I tried it for 3 months and saved $45, but more importantly I actually paid attention to where my money went. Has anyone else found that free tools work better than paid ones for budgeting?

literally just redid my whole budget in sheets this morning lol. i had it in an app for months and kept losing track of what went where, plus the app kept glitching on my phone. nothing beats just typing in a formula and dragging it down a column to see everything at once. i even color code my tabs now, way easier to find stuff than scrolling through menus.
