My coworker told me I was wasting money on meal prep containers and she was right

I used to buy those expensive glass meal prep containers every few months because I'd lose the lids or break them in the sink. My coworker Sarah finally said hey, why don't you just save your takeout containers from Chinese food and use those. I thought she was crazy at first but I tried it and honestly they work just as good for storing leftovers. I stopped buying containers for like 6 months now and probably saved $40 or $50 total. The only downside is they don't stack as nice but it's worth it for the money. Has anyone else switched to free containers from takeout or am I just being cheap?

Hang on, let me ask you something real quick. You said the lids go missing or the glass breaks - does that happen with the takeout containers too? Because I've been doing the same thing you're doing for about two years now and I've found that the thin plastic lids from Chinese food places get cracks in them after a few washes. They still seal okay but not as tight as they used to. Also, have you noticed any weird smells or stains sticking to the plastic after you put something with tomato sauce in there? That's my main complaint, the glass ones never held onto smells but these plastic ones sure do.

Nah @linda_wood, tomato sauce stains plastic forever.
