Was my water heater leak a budgeting win or a wake-up call?

My water heater gave out last Wednesday, and I had to choose between a $200 quick patch or a $900 replacement. Did I save money short-term or just gamble with a bigger flood later, what's your take?

Is it just me or does every homeowner decision feel like you're just kicking the can down the road... Short term you saved money but long term that patch might just be a ticking time bomb.
