Vent: My client in Tampa insisted on using 1/2 inch ply for a built-in bookshelf's main carcass.

I explained that 3/4 inch is standard for that kind of load, but they were sure it would be fine. Now the shelves are bowing after only two months with books on them. How do you guys handle clients who push back on basic structural specs?

Just show them a picture of the bowing shelves lol, that usually gets the point across.

Actually, a photo might backfire. They could just say you overloaded it wrong or used cheap shelves. Better to bring up the weight limit from the manual, that's harder to argue with. Pictures leave too much room for them to blame the user.

Spot this everywhere now. Companies design stuff to fail just outside the warranty period, then blame you for using it wrong. My favorite coffee maker died at 13 months, and they said I must have used hard water. My friend's zipper broke and the brand said she pulled it too hard. It's never their problem.
