Serious question, has anyone else blown a ton of cash on those 'universal' shutter blade repair kits?

I'm out about $180 and a whole afternoon on a kit I bought online last month. The ad said it worked for a bunch of old SLR models, but the metal was way too soft. I tried to bend a blade for a Pentax K1000 and it just snapped in the jig. The whole set felt cheap, like they just stamped them out and called it a fix. Now I had to order the proper, model-specific part anyway and explain the delay to the customer. It's so frustrating when a shortcut ends up costing more time and money. What's a good source for blades that won't turn to dust?

My last attempt at that cost me a shutter and my pride.

Okay but a shutter is just a piece of plastic or metal. It can be fixed or replaced. Pride is free to lose and find again the next day. I've messed up way bigger things and the world kept spinning. It feels huge in the moment, but it's really not that deep. We all have those days where a project goes sideways.
