Guy at the supply yard told me my float was 'cute'

Ugh, classic. I just hold up the tool and say 'Yeah, it gets the job done' real flat. Usually shuts them up.

Honestly thought 'write what you know' was the worst advice until my dog ate a library book

Used to roll my eyes at that advice. Then I tried writing about my old job at a diner and it just clicked.

My logbook hit 10,000 hours on the tower crane last Tuesday

My uncle was a long-haul trucker for thirty years, and he said the real shift wasn't hitting a million miles, but the day he stopped seeing the road and started feeling the whole rig like it was part of him. It sounds like that same switch, from counting hours to just knowing the machine and the weather in your bones. That quiet confidence seems to be the real trophy in any job where the stakes are that high.

Can we talk about moving from contract climbing to a full-time crew position?

My buddy jamie130 tried the 9-to-5 thing for a year at a dealership. He said the worst part was asking for a Tuesday off to go fishing.

The week our town's power grid almost failed from the heat

We hit 109 in Bakersfield last summer and the city sent three alerts a day. My buddy across the street ran his sprinklers for two hours straight while his truck was idling in the driveway, just so he could "keep the engine bay cool." I mean, you see that and you just lose hope. It's like a switch flips where people think wasting more power will somehow fix a shortage. Maybe they need to send those blackout warnings with a picture of a melted ice cream bar.
